Seeing who's due

The Rent ledger is where you keep track of what's been paid and what's still outstanding. Unpaid and overdue rows are highlighted so you can see, at a glance, who needs a nudge and how far behind they are across months.

Sending a reminder

To send a rent reminder, ask the Ask Karyasthan assistant, for example: "remind Rahul about June's rent." It drafts a reminder, shows you the message, and sends it to the tenant over Telegram once you confirm. You're always shown the draft before anything is sent. See Ask Karyasthan for how the propose-and-confirm flow works.

tip: Reminders are delivered over Telegram, so the tenant needs their Telegram chat linked for the message to arrive. The assistant never sends anything without your confirmation.

Payment receipts

When you record a payment, Karyasthan generates a receipt automatically, whether it is a rent payment or a payment against a tenant's opening balance (arrears). The receipt number follows the format KY-YYYY-#### (for example, KY-2026-0042) and is tied uniquely to that payment.

The receipt preview in the Rent page's payment drawer shows:

Tenant name
Property and unit
Period (the calendar month)
Date the payment was recorded
Amount paid in ₹

Opening-balance payments are recorded from the property detail page with just an amount and date (no live preview, no calendar month). The receipt is generated after you save and delivered the same way as a rent receipt.

Delivering the receipt

Recording the payment always saves the receipt as a document. The payment is recorded whether or not delivery succeeds. If the tenant has linked their Telegram, the receipt is also sent to them automatically (best-effort) when you mark the rent paid or record an opening-balance payment. WhatsApp delivery is planned for a future release.

tip: To deliver receipts to a tenant, link their Telegram chat first. Until then, the receipt is still saved under Documents and you can share it yourself.

Finding past receipts

Receipts are stored as documents of type Rent receipt under Documents. The Ledger also shows the receipt number for every paid row.
